We can often feel negative or positive energy when entering a room, building, office, property, or meeting someone new. Some would say there is an over all feeling of peace and balance that we all strive for in our own homes. When this has been disrupted it can be due to negative energies construed by a negative event or chain of events. The build-up of negative energy my cause you to feel tired, stressed, argumentative, tense, unsettled, distracted or simply unbalanced. Negative/Lower energies can cause blockages and increase anxiety, depression, and fear.

it is important because alot going on in your daily life and you cleanse your house your relife yourself of the enrgy stuck in the house from your day and the stuck energy that is unwelcomed in your home. we dont typically cleanse our homes daily (though we should) which leads to stuck and accumulated energy over the time in between clearings.

Just as a room needs to be cleaned and aired out periodically, the places we live need to be energetically cleansed as well. It’s a good idea to cleanse the energy of your living space when you first move into a new place and throughout the year. If you or someone you know is having difficulty in some area of their life, or had a traumatic or unsettling incident occur in their home, a cleansing can be beneficial. Blocked energy will be released and new energy will form. Smudging can lead to transformation inside your being and within your environment.

Smudging is an example of a common term used to describe a cleansing technique based from the Native American tradition. It is a ceremonial way to cleanse a person, place, or an object of negative energies or influences. It is also an effective method for energizing or blessing a person, place, or object.

The tradition of cleansing has been around for centuries and is an ancient spiritual ritual originating in Native America. It used to clear negative energy and for healing - buildings store stagnant energies, as the human body does, and so regular cleansing restores balance, benefiting the health and wellbeing of its occupants.

Sage, in the form of a smudge stick, is the most popular form of smudging. Simply light the smudge stick and sage the perimeter of each room, giving special attention to the corners and doorways (if you are smudging a location).

Sage Smudging

Smudging is used for medicinal benefits, for people who are affected by poor air quality, so particularly those suffering from respiratory issues, lung problems, headaches, asthma and the common cold and cough. There is scientific evidence that medicinal smoke is a powerful antiseptic that purifies the air of 94% of harmful bacteria for up to 24 hours.

Any conflict, anger or illness is absorbed by the sage smoke and removed from the energy field of you and your space; it can help those close to you. Sage means salvia in Latin, 'healthy' or ' to heal' and regular burning increases your memory, awareness and mood. The smoke attaches to the negative energy in the air, dissipates and clears it, and transmutes it from negative to positive.

Keep in mind your intention of removing any negative energy from the area. Focus on your intention to clear the space or pray as you smudge. Once you are done, place a smudge stick in a burn safe bowl or shell and allow the smoke to dissipate on its own. Sit down peacefully and meditate. Imagine your space cleared and filled with positive light.

What are you burning? And does it leave a strong smell?

I mainly burn White Sage and also Frankincense, Palo Santo and Incense, especially after illness and extreme bouts of depression.

Sage is very gentle, so it doesn’t leave a strong smell and it’s extremely rare for the smoke to set off fire alarms. It is a good idea to open windows during, or just after the cleanse, to further release negativity and ensuring no lingering smells.

And what does the smoke do?

The smoke attaches to the bad energy in the air - often trapped in corners and amongst clutter - and dissipates it, transmuting the energy to positive. Regular cleansing, of our homes and our bodies, is vital for our health, wellbeing and mental clarity.

how and when to seek help with one below.

when you have attempted your own cleansing ritual/ceremony and are not getting the results you are wanting or needing. when you have exceeded your ability that is when you reach out to a professional to assist you in clearing your specific needs creating the desired effects in your space.

Negative energy sticks to everything, so de-cluttering shelves, cupboards, draws, basements, everywhere, helps alongside cleansing. Essentially, the electromagnetic field (or aura) around our body, as well as the space around us, becomes blocked with harmful positive ions that can make us feel fatigued, sluggish and burnt out. The smoke from a ‘smudge stick’ (a bundle of sacred herbs which is burned) involved in cleansing absorbs and dispels these, cleansing our energy field and thus that of our environment. The sage neutralizes the positive charge and releases large amounts of negative ions into the atmosphere, making us feel lighter and freer. The term 'cut the tension with a knife' during an argument or when someone is in a terrible mood is so true - it’s a build-up of positive ions that causes the air to become stale. House cleansing reverses this, purifying, and cleansing the atmosphere.

Why do people perform house cleanses & when is the best time to do it?

When viewing a new home, or walking into a current home or office, people will sometimes say, “It just doesn’t feel right”. This is because the property has energy blockages from previous experiences of the inhabitants, likely brought on by the challenges of life, such as divorce, illness or loss and even when outside the home, they can bring negativity into the environment. Every time we meet another person we exchange energies. If they’re angry, we pick this up and it can then be dispensed into our home.

A cleanse can be performed at poignant moments in a person’s life, such as when someone is looking to start afresh with a new project or adventure; after personal difficulties or an illness; when moving into a new space or if the occupants in a home change; or if anyone in the property is having problems sleeping. Basically whenever you feel ‘stuck’ and want to improve the quality of your life. At these times, you can remove any negative energies that existed before or that have accumulated over time.

The medical benefits of house cleansing

Cleansing provides a sense of calmness and positivity that’s similar to meditation, enhancing concentration and boosting creativity. The more relaxed and balanced we can be, then the healthier our bodies are in the long term. Smudging actively kills bacteria in the air, along with bad energies, so is good for people who are affected by poor air quality, particularly those suffering from respiratory and lung problems, headaches, asthma, and common colds.

Sage in the plant world is known by the name salvia, which in Latin means ‘healthy’ or ‘to heal’, and burning it regularly increases your memory, awareness, and mood. It cleanses and purifies the body, mind, and soul, along with our environment - it’s entirely possible to feel a change in the air immediately after use. White sage also has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which boost mental clarity and improves air quality. Scientific studies have shown that medicinal smoke is a powerful antiseptic that decreases the level of harmful bacteria by around 94%. It repels the kind of airborne pathogens that cause viruses and disease.

How does it help

How does it help people who suffer from depression?

Smudging is good for depression as it actively kills bacteria, lifts your mood, provides mental clarity and a certain level of relaxation. It is becoming increasingly more popular as people look outside of the ‘norm’, rather than relying on often addictive pharmaceutical drugs that frequently only ‘put a plaster’ on the problem rather than looking at the root emotional causes.

Process

So, what's the process? You have previously said it involves applying Reiki energy to each room - what is Reiki?

My personal method involves building an intuitive Crystal Grid in advance and placing in the home, prior to the ceremony, then using sound healing, burning sage and applying Reiki energy to each room. Also, chanting mantras and the use of prayers where necessary, to further aid the removal of stagnant energy from the space.

Reiki energy to each room - what is Reiki?

Reiki is an extremely powerful and effective energy healing treatment that ignites the immune system and our own ability to heal, restoring emotional, physical and mental balance. Blockages and toxins accumulate overtime due to the complexities of life, negative 'learned' behavours and stored trauma. It works by subtly changing the flow of energy through and within the body. Life challenges cause the flow of energy within us to be stifled and build-ups can lead to diseases. Treatments bring the body back into equilibrium, relieving stress, anxiety and depression; easing pain; aiding relaxation and personal growth; and strengthening overall health. I apply Reiki to each room to further cleanse the energies and protect the home from negativity.

Fascinating! How long does it take and what does it cost?

It can take anything from one and a half to up to 10 hours, and the cost depends on the size of the property, the rooms contained within, the location and the amount of stagnant energies present. Quotes are available via email, emma@handserenity.com or on HandSerenity.com.

Remote Home Energy Cleansing
Remote clearing works the same as distance healing sessions. Energy is everywhere and everything and can be improved no matter where we are in the world from each other. It is beneficial to send a video of your property (internal + external) to aid the clearing. We can also book a Zoom Coaching call, if you are having particular difficulties and need guidance. The cost depends on the size of your space, drop me an email emma@handserenity.com for a quote.

Home & Office Energy Cleansing
Regular space clearing cleanses your home of negative energetic imprints and is as important as cleansing the emotional, physical and mental blockages within you. We take on energy from others and this is then transported into our space and sticks to everything. We should also regularly de-clutter shelves, cupboards, basements, garages and so on. The stagnant energies have detrimental effects on our mental and physical state and success levels.

My personal method involves sound healing, burning sage, applying Reiki energy to each room, chanting mantras and the use of prayers.  Decluttering and Feng Shui advice given, where required. The cost depends on the size of your space, the number of rooms + the travel time.
